Sliver of Sunlight Pattern Available in Spring 2026 Issue of Little Looms Magazine
I'm excited to announce that my Sliver of Sunlight Scarf is featured in the Spring 2026 issue of Little Looms Magazine! This is a beginner-friendly rigid heddle pattern using plain weave and a focused, intentional color palette.

The Inspiration
This piece began with color. A dark, overcast palette — Coal and Steel in Gist Yarn Mallo Cotton Slub — paired with a small amount of Gist Yarn Duet Cotton/Linen in Sun. The goal was to keep the base quiet and let a single warm accent carry through the cloth without overcomplicating the design.
Working in Plain Weave
The structure is straightforward: plain weave throughout. The pattern is built through warp striping and a repeated weft sequence. It’s a good example of how beautiful (and wearable!) a simple plaid sequence can be.
At the Loom
Once warped, the weaving itself is steady and repetitive. There’s a clear rhythm to follow, with just enough variation in the weft to keep it engaging. It’s well-suited to newer weavers getting comfortable with consistency and working with multiple weft colors, but it also works as an easy, "quick win" project if you’ve been weaving for a while.
The Finished Cloth
Off the loom, and after wet finishing, the fabric has a soft hand with a bit of structure/slubbiness from the Mallo. The plaid reads clearly, with the narrow Duet stripe adding contrast without dominating the piece. It wears easily and layers well, with just enough visual interest to stand on its own.
Why This One
This pattern sits in that space between simple and considered. It doesn’t ask much in terms of technique, but it still produces something that feels finished and intentional — a useful project whether you’re just getting started or looking for something straightforward to weave. I personally wanted a scarf just like this in my own wardrobe! Make it your own by selecting your two favorite colors of Mallo and a contrasting color of Duet. Happy Weaving!
